Hu Jintao, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and President of China, warmly welcomed Nguyen Van Son, special envoy of Nong Duc Manh, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee, in Beijing on June 7.

Mr Son, who is member of the CPV Central Committee and head of its Commission for External Relations, is on a visit to China to speak about the results of the recent CPV 10th Congress. He informed the Chinese leader of the positive results of the 10th Congress - a congress of intelligence, unity, renovation and sustainable development that reflected the will and aspiration of the whole Party and the entire nation ushering in a new stage in the development of socialism in Vietnam.

Mr Son stressed that in implementing the Resolution of the Congress, the Vietnamese Party, State and people will place importance on the traditional Vietnam-China neighbourliness, friendship and co-operation, continuing to join hands with the Chinese side to lift the relationship to a new height.

He conveyed profound thanks from Party leader Nong Duc Manh Manh to China for their timely, effective assistance to Vietnamese fishermen caught in the recent Typhoon Chanchu.
He also renewed Mr Manh and State President Tran Duc Luong's invitations to Mr Hu to visit Vietnam and attend the high-level APEC meeting in Hanoi at the end of this year.

General Secretary and President Hu congratulated Vietnam on the success of the 10th CPV congress, and Nong Duc Manh on his re-election as General Secretary of the CPV. He expressed his strong belief that the Vietnamese people, under the leadership of the CPV and Mr Manh, will successfully implement the congress resolution and gain greater achievements for the goal of building Vietnam into a socialist country with a rich people, a prosperous country, and an equal, democratic and civilised society.

The President said that China and its people highly value their traditional friendly relations with Vietnam and will further co-operate with the country to strengthen the friendship, under the motto: "good neighbours, good friends, good comrades and good partners" that has been put forth by the two Parties and States.
He also invited Mr Manh to visit China.

The same day, Mr Son had a talk with leaders of the International Liaison Committee of the Communist Party of China, during which he informed the Chinese side of the new  policies of the 10th Congress of the CPV. The two sides also discussed measures to effectively implement the agreements that had been signed by the two Parties and States, together with international and regional issues of mutual concern.
