The Nha Trang Institute of Vaccines and Medical Biologicals (IVAC) is waiting for the Ministry of Health’s permission to test influenza vaccine A/H5N1 on humans.

IVAC successfully produced the vaccine from inseminated eggs in its labs early this year and received recognition for product quality from the National Vaccine Verification Institute.

The vaccine (FLUVAC) was the result of a research project carried out by the institute from March 2006 to December 2007. Last year, the World Health Organization (WHO) poured US$2.7 million into IVAC to build a flu vaccine factory capable of producing 500,000-1,000,000 doses per year.

Thirty volunteer students from the Military Medical Institute are now in good health 12 days after receiving a second test injection of H5N1 influenza vaccine produced by the Vaccine and Bio-Technology Products Company No. 1 (VABIOTECH).
