A national conference was held in Ho Chi Minh City on January 7 to review the Party’s inspection work in 2007 and devise tasks for 2008.

Truong Tan Sang, Politburo member and Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam stressed the importance of the Party’s inspection work during the Doi Moi (Renewal) process, which was initiated and led by the Communist Party of Vietnam.

“The inspection work aims to enhance the Party’s leadership capacity and combative strength as well as unity to promote democracy and discipline within the Party and prevent political and ideological decadence in the lifestyle of a number of cadres and Party members,” said Mr Sang.

He said that the work also aims to protect the ruling Party from falling into wrong viewpoints and bureaucracy, while contributing to the successful implementation of the resolutions adopted at the 10th National Party Congress.

Delegates agreed that in 2007 the Party’s Inspection Commission made numerous recommendations to the Party Central Committee, the Politburo and the Party Secretariat to issue resolutions and regulations on Party inspections and discipline, thereby facilitating the inspection work at a grassroots level. Through inspections, local Party organisations uncovered and strictly dealt with Party organisations and Party members who committed offences, paying back dozens of billions of Vietnam Dong to the State budget.

The conference will close on January 8.
