The Organising Board of the sixth junior world Taekwondo championships on July 21 released a list of 1,070 players from 75 countries and territories to take part in the event, scheduled for Ho Chi Minh City from July 26-30.

The title favourites are the teams from the Republic of Korea, China, Iran, Taiwan and Thailand.

However, experts said it would not be easy for the Asian contestants to beat arch-rivals from European countries such as Italy, Spain, Germany and Russia or those from the Americas such as the United States and Mexico.

At the HCM City event, the World Taekwondo Federation intends to apply several new tactics, especially those of counting points, as a test-run for their use in future international Taekwondo competitions.

Other events to take place during the championships will include a congress of the World Taekwondo Federation, an international referee training course, an Olympic walking race for peace and Taekwondo performances by foreign martial art troupes.
