Two Vietnamese grandmasters receive major sponsorship
Vietnam’s top chess players, Le Quang Liem and Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son, have received a total of VND4.2 billion (US$200,000) in sponsorship over four years, from 2012-2015.
The sponsorship was announced by the Vietnam Chess Federation (VCF) on November 3.

Accordingly, Liem, who currently ranks 28th in the world with an Elo rating of 2714, will be given US$150,000, while Son, world number 83 with an Elo rating of 2662, will receive US$50,000.

VCF General Secretary Luong Ngoc Minh said the federation will mobilize more sponsors to support young chess players. The amount of the sponsorship will depend on the player’s capacity and their achievements in tournaments, he added.
