The total foreign direct investment in the northern city of Hai Phong hit more than US$ 61.5 million by the end of the first quarter, a three-fold increase over the same period last year, said the Management Board of the municipal Industrial Parks.

Hai Phong currently has 231 valid foreign-invested projects with a total investment of more than US$2.3 billion.

The industrial production value of these enterprises increased by over 22 percent to reach nearly US$100 million, which helped contribute to the city’s industry growth.

However, many foreign investors said that they have faced a lot of barriers in administrative procedures and site clearance.

In a meeting with the municipal People’s Committee on March 29, foreign enterprises presented over 70 proposals to improve investment environment, build infrastructure and service systems, and train high-quality human resources.
