Another Hanoi overpass opens to traffic

(VOV) - After seven months of construction, Hanoi’s fourth overpass entered operation on December 16 to assist the flow of traffic at the Nguyen Chi Thanh–Lang intersection.

Construction of the overpass began in May 2012. This is the capital city’s fourth overpass and boasts a total investment capital of VND348 billion.

The permanent road infrastructure is 315 metres long and 16 metres wide, has four lanes, and can withstand an 80-tonne load.

Addressing the opening ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc praised Hanoi’s efforts in completing the overpass earlier than scheduled. He acknowledged the contribution to addressing the city’s traffic problems, adding the model should be emulated in other localities.

From now on, vehicles travelling back and forth between Tran Duy Hung and Nguyen Chi Thanh can use the overpass while bicycles and pedestrians are not permitted to access the route.

Vehicles moving between the Nga Tu So intersection and Cau Giay have to obey traffic lights and signs below the overpass to turn left or continue straight to Tran Duy Hung and Nguyen Chi Thanh. Right turns are permitted against the traffic light signals.

Other three steel overpasses were opened in Hanoi in April, May, and November at the intersections of Chua Boc–Thai Ha–Tay Sơn, Thai Ha–Lang Ha, and Le Van Luong–Lang, helping ease the capital’s crossroad traffic congestion.
