Placed 26th in the recent International Badminton Federation (IBF) rankings, Vietnamese player Nguyen Tien Minh was chosen to be top seed in the Robot Vietnam Challenge badminton tournament held at Ho Chi Minh City’s Phan Dinh Phung Sports House on July 1.

The tournament drew the participation of 281 players (189 male and 92 female) from 14 countries and territories.

Host Vietnam has the highest number of players (70), followed by Taiwan (43) and Malaysia (42).

In the men’s singles event, two foreign athletes who are expected to compete against Nguyen Tien Minh for the championship are Anand Chetan from India (the world’s 39th player) and Saensomboonsuk Tanongsak from Thailand (the world’s 71st).
