To date, 64 provinces and cities across the country completed their first-round consultation on the structure and number of candidates for the election of candidates to the 12th National Assembly (NA) and sent reports to the Central Election Council.

Bui Ngoc Thanh, chairman of the NA Office and secretary of the Central Election Council said on February 28 that the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) has just ended its first-round consultation in preparation for the 12th National Assembly to which the VFF and its local chapters would have 26 deputies less than in the 11th NA.

Mr Thanh noted that the NA Standing Committee is negotiating the structure and number of NA deputies to be elected at nearly 40 central organizations and agencies and 64 localities. The Central Election Council is completing relevant documents to send to all central organizations, agencies and localities before March 1. Ten days after that, the NA Standing Committee will announce the number of constituencies and the lists of constituents and candidates from each polling station.

To prepare for the upcoming NA election, the Central Election Council set up three sub-committees. One sub-committee, headed by NA Vice chairman Nguyen Van Yeu, will be in charge of propaganda activities for the election. The second sub-committee, headed by NA Vice chairman Nguyen Phuc Thanh, will maintain security during the election. The last sub-committee, led by Le Quang Binh, the head of NA’s Committee for People’s Aspiration, will deal with citizen’s denunciations and petitions.

Propaganda activities will take place in three phases, from February 10 to April 15, from April 16 to May 20 and from May 21 to June 10. The sub-committee on propaganda activities is facilitating the launch of a website on the election.
