Vietnam ranked third after Singapore and Thailand in the medal tally at the 25th Southeast Asian Games after winning four more gold medals in martial arts on December 10.

The national taekwondo team won two more gold medals fulfilling the goal of earning three to four.

The two gold medalists are Luong Minh Dat and Nguyen Trong Cuong. Dat defeated Avenido Marlon from the Philippines in the 80-kg division and Cuong knocked down So Naro from Cambodia in the 87-kg division. 

In the women’s competition events Nguyen Thi Duong and Ha Thi Nguyen won two silver medals. 

The same day, the Vietnamese karate team bagged home two gold medals – one in the single’s kata (performance) event by Nguyen Hoang Ngan and the other in the female team event by Nguyen Hoang Ngan, Nguyen Thanh Hang and Do Thi Thu Ha.

In other events, athlete Hoang Anh Tuan lost the gold medal to Setiadi Jadi of Indonesia in weight-lifting.

After the second day of competition, Vietnamese athletes won six golds, five silvers and eight bronzes.
