The International Labour Organisation (ILO) will continue to support Vietnam in training union workers, said ILO General Director Juan Somavia.

He made the statement on June 12 while receiving a delegation from the Vietnam General Labour Confederation (VGLC), led by President Dang Ngoc Tung, on the sidelines of the 96th session of the International Labour Conference (ILC 96) in Geneva, Switzerland.

The ILO leader lauded the Vietnamese trade union’s achievements in developing its membership and protecting the rights and interests of labourers.
For his part, Mr Tung said the VGLC is giving priority to developing trade union organizations in private and foreign-invested sectors.

Earlier, the VGLC president had working sessions with the ILO Regional Director for Asia and the Pacific, Yasuyuki Nodera, and the General Director of the Cuban Workers’ Centre (CTC), Pedro Ross Leal.
