The first ship bringing Vietnamese typhoon victims ashore is expected to dock at Han river port in the central coastal city of Da Nang on May 23. The Chinese Sea Search and Rescue Centre said it has rescued 330 fishermen from 15 fishing vessels of Da Nang, Quang Nam and Quang Ngai in distress at sea.

The rescued fishermen expressed their deep gratitude to the Chinese Government and Chinese sailors.

After receiving food, safe water, medicine and fuel supplies, the Vietnamese ships have joined the Chinese rescue vessels in searching for the missing victims.

The above-mentioned 15 ships rescued with 330 victims were identified as QNG9145TS, DNA90189, DNA90345, DNA90299, DNA90062, DNA90152, DNA90046, DNA90244, DNA90125, DNA90354, QNG92288TS, QNG99279TS, QNG2160TS, QNG7350TS and QNG7139TS.

According to the Central Committee for Flood and Storm Prevention and Control, typhoon Chanchu has sunk eight fishing ships and left eight other missing with nearly 260 people reported dead or still missing. The real number of missing vessels and victims may be even higher.

The Committee has co-operated with functional agencies such as border guard and navy force to quickly bring typhoon victims ashore. Rescue forces are updating reports of the losses caused by typhoon Chanchu to these central coastal areas.
