Palestinian factions are scheduled to gather in Cairo, Egypt, on February 25 for a national reconciliation dialogue to end internal division, according to sources from the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The decision was made after a meeting between the chief of the Egyptian General Intelligence Services, Oma Suleiman, and a Hamas faction led by Mahmud Zahar, a top Hamas official who is visiting Egypt.

The dialogue, which was scheduled for February 22, was delayed due to on-going negotiations of a ceasefire agreement in Gaza Strip and Palestinian factions’ request to have more time for the meeting.

A senior adviser to the Palestinian leader said that that Egypt wants to reach a ceasefire agreement with Israel before the dialogue takes place.

Several days ago, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) called on Hamas to promote the national reconciliation process.

Hamas asked the Palestinian Authority to free its members detained on the West Bank, saying it is a necessary step towards the success of the meeting.
