Around 100 unique flute kites will take to the skies at a traditional kite festival to be held in Hai Boi commune, Dong Anh district, Hanoi on May 28.

The event, co-organised by the district People’s Committee, and the Thang Long Kite Club, will mark the 500 days left before celebrations of Thang Long-Hanoi’s 1000th anniversary.

Many of the flute kites have been made by four kite clubs from Hai Duong province and others from Hanoi’s outlying districts of Soc Son, Dan Phuong and My Duc and its inner city.

The Thang Long Kite Club will fly two huge kites, one attached to a 50 square-metre piece of cloth called King Ly Thai To’s edict on the transfer of the capital (1010) and the other linked to a 35 square-metre national flag of Vietnam.
