Tug-of-war becomes cultural heritage of humanity

(VOV) - On December 2, Vietnam’s folk game tug-of-war and its ritual on December 2 was recognized as multinational projects for the safeguarding of intangible cultural heritage by the UNESCO at the 10th session of the Intergovernmental Committee for Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Namibia.

Tug-of-war is played in different ways in East and Southeast Asian countries- the Republic of Korea, the Philippines, Cambodia and Vietnam which sent their files for UNESCO recognition of this game.

With the folk game, Vietnam has so far had 10 UNESCO-recognized world cultural heritages.

Also on the same day, the World Records Union (WorldKings) sent a document confirming Truyen Kieu (The Tale of Kieu) by great poet Nguyen Du in the Guinness world record as a literary work with the most national records.

According to WorldKings, ‘the Tale of Kieu’ is an epic poem in Vietnamese written by Nguyen Du (1766-1820) with 3,254 luc bat verses. It has been translated into more than 20 different languages, such as English, Russian and French.

WorldKings is scheduled to present the record at the 31st ‘Meets Vietnam record’ in March 2016.
