A meeting was held in Hanoi on December 29 to coordinate publicity for activities in 2010 when Vietnam undertakes the presidency of ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA).

The Vice Chairman of the National Assembly's Committee for External Affairs, Ngo Duc Manh reviewed the main events for the AIPA year, including  talks to exchange experiences and learn new skills for organising the 31st AIPA General Assembly, and the meeting of Women Parliamentarians of AIPA (WAIPA) on strengthening the role of female law-makers to be held from October 31, 2009 to September 2010.

In 2010, several activities will take place, including an AIPA conference on the role of law-makers during the financial crisis, a ceremony to hand over the AIPA General Secretariat, a visit to China by an AIPA delegation led by its President Nguyen Phu Trong, a meeting between the AIPA President and ASEAN leaders at the ASEAN summit, and several visits to AIPA member countries.

In addition, there will be an AIPA Caucus meeting and other meetings to prepare the agenda for the General Assembly and to learn from the experiences of organising the AIPA in Thailand and Singapore.

Participants in the meeting also discussed publicity for activities next year when Vietnam will assume the 31st AIPA presidency. The work provides a good chance for Vietnam not only to fulfil its duties as an AIPA member but also familiarize international friends with its land and people. It will also help Vietnam to strengthen solidarity and co-operation among regional countries in maintaining ASEAN principles, accelerating the role of parliaments in implementing ASEAN targets and improving AIPA operational efficiency.
