A German newspaper has published an article calling on the US to take responsibility for consequences caused by US military’s use of Agent Orange/dioxin during the Vietnam War.

The US court dismissed twice complaints by Vietnamese AO/dioxin victims, however, they continue to lodge their complaints against the US Supreme Court in an attempt to gain justice, the “Young World” newspaper said. It also urged the US to compensate them appropriately.

The newspaper said that many international donors, including the Solidarity Service International Association (SODIE) of Germany have voiced support for Vietnamese Agent Orange victims. SODIE has recently launched a campaign to collect 100,000 signatures calling for justice and compensation for Agent Orange victims in Vietnam.

The newspaper cited a study by the Hatfield Company of Canada in 2007 as saying that the former airbase of Da Nang in central Vietnam is termed as the most contaminated area with its the Agent Orange/dioxin content being 365 times higher than the permitted level.

At least 3 million Vietnamese are victims of the toxic chemical, which can harm pregnant women, causing miscarriages, premature delivery, genetic abnormalities, immune weakness and severe disabilities.
