The Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) has presented 55,000 prayer books in the Pali-Khmer language to pagodas in southern provinces and cities on the occasion of the traditional Chol Chnam Thmay festival (New Year festival) of the Khmer ethnic people.

All the books, which are copies from 11 prayer book titles of the Primitive Buddhist sect published by the VBS, will be delivered to 453 pagodas and 3,531 worship places in the southern region where over 9,000 Khmer monks are practising.

This was the second time the VBS presented books to the pagodas, the first being last year on the same occasion, when 13,000 copies of three book titles were given.

In total, more than 80,000 copies of prayer books weighting a total of 40 tonnes were handed out to facilitate the religious practice of Khmer monks and believers in the south.
