A 21-year-old Vietnamese student at a school in Chiba prefecture, Japan, was killed on August 14, said the Vietnamese embassy in Tokyo.

The embassy was informed of Nguyen Trung Hieu's death by the Meisei Institute of Cybernetics in Chiba prefecture where he was studying.

Hieu, born in 1985 in Bac Ninh province, came to Japan on April 2004 to study the Japanese language before becoming a student at the Meisei Institute of Cybernetics.

Japanese police said they were investigating the case. However, Hieu's father, Nguyen Van Huong, told a Viet Nam News Agency reporter in Bac Ninh province that his son was stabbed to death on the morning of August 14 by a friend who had a quarrel with him.
