Prof. Dr. Nakagawa Takeshi from Japan has been presented the Friendship Order by the Vietnamese State in recognition of his contribution to the conservation of Hue’s cultural heritage.

Empowered by the State President Office, the Thua Thien-Hue provincial People’s Committee and the Hue Monuments Conservation Centre handed over the order to the Japanese professor at a ceremony on June 11.

Prof. Dr. Takeshi, who is Director of Waseda University’s UNESCO World Heritage Institute, is active in the transfer of advanced preservation techniques from Japan and the world to the Hue Monuments Conservation Centre.

He and his partners are now lobbying the Japanese Government for US$20 million in non-refundable aid to restore the Can Chanh Palace in the former imperial capital of Hue from 2010-2015.
