Thirty beauties from the Miss Vietnam 2008 pageant began the “Miss Friendly” contest with activities in support of the poor on August 23.

The contestants visited a sanatorium for invalids and those who had rendered great services to the nation’s revolutionary cause in the Dien Ban and Que Son districts of ancient Hoi An town.

They also participated in a ground-breaking ceremony for the construction of the Nguyen Phan Vinh primary school and visited the orphanage and the house of Vietnamese hero Nguyen Van Troi in Dien Ban district.

For the occasion, the Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam (BIDV) has co-oridnated with the organising board in building 12 classrooms at a cost of VND2 billion for the Nguyen Phan Vinh primary school, and presenting compassionate houses and saving books to 10 heroic Vietnamese mothers and scholarships to 20 most outstanding poor students there.
