Localities in Vietnam and Slovakia, including Ho Chi Minh City and Bratislava, would take effective measures to promote cooperation for mutual development, contributing to boosting the two countries' ties, said Chairman of the HCM City People's Committee Le Hoang Quan while receiving Slovakia President in the city on October 17.

Slovakia President Ivan Gasparovic visited HCM City on October 17, on the second leg of his current official visit to Vietnam from October 14-18 at the invitation of State President Nguyen Minh Triet.

Chairman Le Hoang Quan expressed his belief in the cooperation programme approved by the two countries' leaders recently.

He noted that the city is actively inquiring into the Slovak market and will send business delegations to the country in 2007 to seek for opportunities for trade and investment.

President Gasparovic said the Vietnamese people who study, work and live in Slovakia will serve as an important and effective bridge between Slovakia and Vietnam which are entering a new stage of development.

He asserted the Slovakian businesses' interest in Ho Chi Minh City and expressed his belief that the two countries' business forum would bring more opportunities for cooperation.

He stressed that the opening of an honourary consulate of Slovakia in Ho Chi Minh City demonstrated his country's desire to strengthen cooperation in economy and other fields with the city as well as with other localities in Vietnam.
