President Nguyen Minh Triet is expected to make an official visit to the United States at the invitation of President George W. Bush, Foreign Ministry spokesman Le Dung told the press on May 28.
It will be the first official visit by a Vietnamese President to Washington DC in the past 30 years.
“At present, the two sides are closely cooperating with each other in preparation for the visit,” spokesman Dung said.
On a recent visit to Vietnam, US Assistant Secretary of State Christopher Hill exchanged views on issues related to Vietnam-US relations and preparations for President Triet’s visit.
An advance team from the Foreign Ministry will leave for the US this week to prepare for the President’s visit.
