Khmer people in the Mekong delta province of An Giang are preparing for their cow race festival, which will take place on October 9.

The Bay Nui festival, which dates back to a custom of cow racing during the rice cultivation season, has been held annually since 1992 in Tri Ton and Tinh Bien districts. It has expanded to include racing teams from other provinces in the Mekong delta.

This year’s festival, which will be held on the occasion of the Dolta traditional festival, is expected to draw the participation of 70 cow teams from An Giang and its neighbouring province of Kien Giang.
