The 2007 National Traditional Boat Racing Championship took place in Ha Tien town, southern Kien Giang province on May 11 and 12, attracting 10 teams from the southern provinces of An Giang, Binh Thuan, Can Tho, Kien Giang, Tra Vinh, Hau Giang, Soc Trang, Bac Lieu and Ca Mau, and central Da Nang City.
Competitors took part in four 1,000m events, namely the women’s 12-racer boat, men’s 12-racer boat, women’s 22-racer boat, and men’s 22-racer boat. Two gold medals went to Kien Giang, while the other two golds went to An Giang and Can Tho.
Kien Giang province will also host a traditional regatta for the Khmer community in southern Vietnam on May 14-15. This event is expected to attract nearly 1,000 athletes and thousands of spectators from the Mekong Delta region.
