Ping Xiang city (Guangxi province) and Dong Dang town (Lang Son province) will use 8.5 km2 of the land fund in their border areas to build an economic cooperation zone to boost trade relations between the two provinces in particular and the two countries in general.

The visiting Secretary of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Liu Qibao, held a working session with Lang Son provincial leaders on May 9, according to the local media.

During the session, guest and host discussed the package deal on economic cooperation in the common border areas, including measures to step up the building of the Vietnam-China border economic cooperation zone. Earlier this year, Lang Son and Guangxi provinces have signed a memorandum of understanding on building the zone.

The Vietnam-China border economic cooperation zone will offer special preferential policies on customs, quarantine and taxation. China has already spent US$143 million on infrastructure construction for this project which is receiving support and finance from the United Nation Development Programme (UNDP).
