The Tourism Promotion Organisation for Asian Pacific Cities (TPO) Managing Board convened its eighth conference in Ho Chi Minh City on April 6 to strengthen the operation of the TPO Managing Board and TPO Secretariat, and draw up a sustainable development strategy for 2006-2007.

Delegates discussed the organisation of big events to exchange tourists among TPO member countries and promote follow-up training programmes through co-operation with international universities.

They also discussed the provision of professional consultations on tourism development, the organisation of TPO travel fairs and application of TPO travel cards with preferences.

TPO was set up in August 2002 following an initiative of Busan city of the Republic of Korea to unite cities and organisations in the Asia-Pacific region to promote tourism.

TPO groups 51 cities from 13 countries and 29 travel businesses in the Asia-Pacific region. Besides HCM City, the northern port city of Hai Phong and Viettravel are TPO members.
