The selection of Hanoi as a venue by Japan and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) to resume their sensitive negotiations aimed at normalising bilateral diplomatic ties showed that Vietnam’s external policy had been highly appreciated, commented the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) on March 8.

The BBC praised Vietnam for having established good relations with Japan, and friendly relations with many other countries, including the DPRK. It quoted Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Qin Gang, as saying at a weekly press conference in the afternoon of March 8 that China highly appreciated Pyongyang’s move to resume negotiations with Japan and the US. This is an important step towards implementing the common statement of the six-party talks on the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue, said the spokesperson.

The Chinese FM spokesperson also expressed his hope that the DPRK, Japan and the US would quickly resolve their pending issues to reach the goal of normalizing diplomatic ties.
