State President Nguyen Minh Triet met with Yunnan province’s Secretary of the Party Committee Bai En Pei at the Presidential Office in Hanoi on November 25.

At the reception, State President Nguyen Minh Triet emphasised that peoples of both nations have a traditional friendship and similar cultures. They have also supported each other in the struggle for national liberation and construction.

The Vietnamese Party, State, and People expressed their wish that the friendship between the two nations will be further developed. If there is any incident, both nations should devise timely and quick solutions to prevent hostile forces from sowing discord in order to maintain a peaceful, stable, and developed border.

President Triet expressed delight that the friendship and cooperation between the two nations and localities have developed well in recent years. China is an important partner of Vietnam. The relationship between the two ruling Parties has been consolidated, laying a solid foundation to promote comprehensive cooperation between the two nations.

The State President expressed his wish that both sides will continue to promote the implementation of signed programmes and projects and create deeper cooperation.

Mr Triet highlighted Yunnan province’s efforts in strengthening cooperation with Vietnam’s northern provinces and expanding relations with the central province of Khanh Hoa and HCM City. He expressed his wish that more delegations from Yunnan province will come to Vietnam to seek investment opportunities, strengthen cultural ties and promote people-to-people diplomacy.

For his part, Mr Bai En Pei was impressed at Vietnam’s rapid development as well as fine relationship between the two nations. Under the "16-word" motto (Friendly neighbourliness, comprehensive co-operation, durable stability and future-oriented vision) and the "four-goods" spirit (Good neighbours, good friends, good comrades and good partners), cooperation between Yunnan province and Vietnam will be developed continuously. Effective cooperation between Yunnan and Vietnam’s localities have contributed to bringing two-way trade to US$1 billion this year and the figure will be doubled in the next five years.

Mr Bai En Pei stated that, Yunnan province will do its best to build a peaceful and friendly border with Vietnam.
