Da Nang City Health Department Deputy Director Nguyen Ut on September 17 confirmed the first death caused by A/H1N1 flu in Da Nang City, the 7th fatal case in Vietnam so far.

The victim was Vu Van Manh, a 40-year-old official from the Ministry of National Defence, living in No K05/11 Le Trong Tan road, Thanh Khe district, Da Nang City.

The patient fell sick on September 12 with symptoms of coughing and fever. On September 16, he was admitted to hospital C17. After a day of treatment, he became more seriously ill and was then taken to Da Nang general hospital where he died on September 17.

His sample tested positive for the flu virus on September 18, according to the Nha Trang Pasteur Institute.

Da Nang health officials have sprayed chemicals around Manh’s house and his office and are monitoring his relatives and others who have had contact with him.

As of September 18, Da Nang City had 38 cases of infection with the A/H1N1 flu virus. One patient already died and 31 others have been discharged from hospital.
