Vietnam’s export turnover of tra and basa catfish is estimated to hit more than US$700 million since the beginning of the year, up 35 percent against the same period last year, according to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP).

The European Union (EU) remains the leading market in importing Vietnam’s tra and basa catfish with turnover reaching around US$400 million, accounting for over 49 percent of total export value and up 40 percent compared to the same period last year.

Although Ukraine ranks sixth among Vietnam’s export markets, it is considered a potential market as it has a growth rate of nearly 200 percent. Currently, Vietnam exports tra and basa catfish to 75 territories and countries around the world.

According to experts, with the current growth rate, Vietnam can achieve an export turnover target of US$1 billion this year. Currently, the demands for imported frozen products remain high in the EU, Eastern and North American markets.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, agro-forestry and seafood exports have reached more than US$11.5 billion in the past 11 months, up 15 percent over the same period last year.
