The US Department of State has allowed Vietnam to open a consulate general in New York City, following an agreement between the US and Vietnam’s leaders.

The two sides are carrying out procedures and preparing the necessary conditions for this inauguration, according to Vietnamese embassy in the US.

The consulate general in New York will be Vietnam’s 4th diplomatic agency in the US, after the Vietnamese embassy established in Washington D.C., in 1995, and consulate generals were founded in San Francisco, California in 1997 and Houston, Texas in 2009.
