The Spring Trade Fair opened in Hanoi on February 6 with the participation of more than 500 enterprises displaying a wide range of consumer goods and specialities from various regions of the country in the lead-up to the traditional Lunar New Year Festival (Tet).

On display are Tet products such as confectioneries, processed food and foodstuff, beverages, garments, jewelleries, paintings, fine art articles and household utensils.

Specialties from different regions include Hoa Binh Ruou Can (wine drunk out of a jar through pipes), Nam Roi and Dien grapefruits, Bo Ha orange, Dong Xoai bamboo shoot, Bac Giang vermicelli, Thai Nguyen and Ha Giang tea, Bien Hoa coffee, Hai Hau and Dien Bien fragrant rice, Uoc Le pork pie, Hai Duong green bean cake, Ben Tre coconut candy and Soc Trang durian cake.

In addition, many craft villages are showcasing their products, including Bat Trang and Phu Lang ceramics, Ha Tay embroidery paintings and Dong Ky wood products. An area is reserved for ornamental trees and flowers.

Do Tuan Hai, Director of Dong Xuan Liquor Company’s Hanoi branch said his company has selected high-quality products for export to the fair in the hope of promoting its trademark and helping consumers distinguish between fake and real liquor.

Nguyen Tuan Anh Dung, owner of Phuoc Loc Meat Pie Workshop in Hanoi told VOVNews that he hopes to expand production through the participation in the fair.

“Our primary goal is to produce safe products for customers,” said Mr Hai, adding that every day, his facility produces about 200kg of meat pie for schools in Hanoi.

To ensure product quality, an inter-sectoral group of specialists was established to inspect displayed products from origin to quality as well as food safety and hygiene regulations. The group comprises specialists from the Department of Trade, the Department of Science and Technology, the Department of Health and the Market Management Agency.

Diverse art performances are also being held during the week long fair.
