The minimum salary of workers in domestic enterprises will increase by 20-38 percent and foreign direct investment enterprises by 13-15 percent as of January 1, 2008.

At a press conference on October 22, Deputy Minister of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs Huynh Thi Nhan said that the ministry has submitted minimum salary for enterprises to the government.

Over the past four years, the minimum salary adjustments have helped improve workers’ living conditions. However, the minimum salary in FDI businesses remains about 1.53-1.93 times higher than that in domestic businesses.

Domestic businesses have still failed to the implement minimum salary level stipulated for different regions by the Labour Code, Ms Nhan noted.
