“Vietnam will do its utmost to learn and cooperate well with other members of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC),” said Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Gia Khiem while receiving US Assistant Secretary of State Kristen L. Silverberg in Hanoi on November 2.

“Vietnam has the honour to become a 2008-2009 non-permanent member of the UNSC,” the deputy PM said.

He said that the exchange of delegations and dialogues would also help promote the relationship between Vietnam and the US.

US Assistant Secretary of State Kristen expressed her delight to pay her first visit to Vietnam and affirmed that Vietnam has recorded progress in human rights, the freedom of speech and the freedom of the Internet.

She suggested that Vietnam and the US should further cooperation in order to have a better understanding of issues on which both sides have different opinions.
