HCM City’s consumer price index (CPI) rose by 1.21 percent in September, according to the municipal Statistics Department.

The index has risen 3.38 percent since late last year and 4.63 percent over the same period last year.

Education saw the sharpest rise of 6.77 percent, followed by transport (4.12 percent). This is attributed to the commencement of the school year and recent price hikes in petrol.

Restaurant and food services increased of 0.35 percent, of which food and foodstuff rose 1.36 and 0.08 percent, respectively.

Meanwhile, the gold price soared 6.4 percent against last month while the price of the US dollar was up 0.21 percent.

Hanoi’s CPI increased by 2.47 percent against August, significantly lower than the national figure.
