In a report presented at the on-going 12th National Assembly (NA) on July 30, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung stressed the need to renew Government organisation, properly implement the multi-sector and multi-field management mechanism of one agency and person to be responsible for each individual matter.

NA deputies on July 30 heard a report from PM Nguyen Tan Dung on the number of Deputy Prime Ministers and the establishment and abolition of ministries and ministerial-level agencies in the Government structure for the 12th term.

Government re-organisation aims to streamline the apparatus staff, perfect the functions, tasks, leadership and management model of the Government and raise the efficiency of its performance in line with the socialist-oriented market economy and international economic integration for the benefit of building a socialist law-governed State, said Mr Dung.

Restructuring Government-related activities also aims to build a united and modern executive body that will grasp its main functions as far as politics, economics, social affairs, culture, national defense and security and external relations are concerned.

According to the report, the Government apparatus for the 12th term consists of 22 ministries and ministerial-level agencies, including the Ministry of National Defense, the Ministry of Public Security, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Planning and Investment, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Construction, the Ministry of Natural Resources, Environment and Sea, the Ministry of Information and Communications, the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Education and Training, the Ministry of Health, the Committee for Ethnic Minorities, the State Bank of Vietnam, the Government Inspectorate and the Government Office.

PM Dung asked the 12th NA to adopt five Deputy Prime Ministers and Government members. Accordingly, there will be a total of 28 members of the new Government for the 12th term, two and three members less than for the 11th and the 10th terms, respectively.

On his part, the Director of the NA Committee for Legal Affairs presented an appraisal report on the list of Deputy Prime Ministers, the establishment and abolition of ministries and ministerial-level agencies. The NA Committee for Legal Affairs asked the Government to issue specific regulations on the functions and tasks of ministries and ministerial-level agencies.
