During the past two years, a mobile surgery delegation of the Vietnam National Institute of Ophthalmology (VNIO) has improved eyesight for nearly 700 impoverished people.

The VNIO will coordinate with the Thanh Nien (Youth) newspaper to provide free eye surgery on a mobile car to 60 poor blind people in Tinh Gia disitrct, Thanh Hoa province from June 26-29.


Earlier, the VNIO had provided free surgery to 70 blind people in Y Yen District, northern Nam Dinh province from May 31 to June 3.


The two courses worth VND130 million were sponsored by the National Oil and Gas Group.


During the past two years, with support from donors, businesses and international organizations, the mobile surgery delegation of the VNIO has improved eyesight for nearly 700 blind people. In addition they have brought modern medical services to people in remote and mountainous areas, and transferred advanced scientific technologies to doctors at local hospitals and clinic centres.


Associate Professor and Doctor Do Nhu Hon, VNIO director said that the hospital is willing to receive support from the community to help poor blind people and to provide healthcare services even in remote areas as well as create favourable conditions for citizens to access advanced technologies from the Vietnamese ophthalmology sector.


As scheduled, from July 1-7, the mobile car will carry out free operations on 50 poor patients in Moc Chau district, northern Son La province and 36 patients in Do Son town, Hai Phong province.
