Search teams from Military Zone 7 have found and repatriated 4,916 sets of remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers who died on the battlefields in Cambodia.

There were 13 operations during the 2001-06 period, according to Military Zone 7's report released on July 19.

The repatriated remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers were buried with due ceremony in martyrs' cemeteries in the three provinces of Tay Ninh, Binh Phuoc and Long An. Of these, as many as 300 sets of remains have been identified and have been handed over to relatives or authorities at other military zones.

According to Colonel Huynh Hat, Military Zone 7 will make every effort to carry out search operations in the 2006-07 dry season and in the coming years.

Military Zone 7 and the three above said provinces have closely coordinated with Cambodia's military and local authorities in their search operations and their Vietnamese repatriation teams have also helped local Cambodians harvest their crops and repair their homes, and provided them with medical checks and free medicines, contributing to fostering the friendship and solidarity between the two nations.
