Permanent Secretary of the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs Sihasak Phuangketkeow said this at a courtesy visit to Vietnamese Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh on August 24.

Sihasak Phuangketkeow spoke highly of the effective implementation of bilateral cooperation mechanisms, including the meeting of the Vietnam-Thailand Joint Committee on Trade Cooperation in Hanoi in July and that of the Vietnam-Thailand Joint Working Group on Political and Security Cooperation in Hua Hin earlier this month.

FM Minh said he is pleased with fine development in the two countries’ bilateral cooperation in various fields, including politics-diplomacy, defence-security, and trade-investment.

Regarding international and regional issues, the two sides pledged to promote ASEAN’s six-point principle on the East Sea and coordinate in accelerating discussions with China on a Code of Conduct in the East Sea (COC).

They also vowed to closely cooperate with other ASEAN countries in regional cooperation mechanisms, ensuring the successful organization of the upcoming ASEAN Summit in Phnom Penh.

The same day, Sihasak Phuangketkeow and Vietnamese Deputy FM Pham Quang Vinh co-chaired the second political consultation meeting between the two foreign ministries.
