Vietnam has sent 26 athletes and officials to the 25th anniversary Universiade, or World Student Games, in Belgrade, Serbia to be held from July 1-12.

A squad of 15 athletes and 11 coaches and umpires will take part in athletics, table tennis and taekwondo competitions.

Nguyen Thi Thu Ngan, who won a gold medal at the Southeast Asian Championships in HCM City earlier this month, represents the country’s big hope in taekwondo.

The Universiade is expected to attract some 9,000 competitors from 140 countries who will compete in 208 athletics, judo, football, basketball, fencing, volleyball, swimming, rhythmic gymnastics, diving, artistic gymnastics, table tennis, archery, tennis, taekwondo and water polo events.
