No new outbreak of bird flu has been discovered in the whole country since the last case was reported in northern mountainous Cao Bang province on December 15, 2005, said the Veterinary Department under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD).

However, all localities have strictly conducted prevention work and vaccination for poultry, according to the department.

Four northern provinces, namely Ha Nam, Nam Dinh, Bac Giang and Hung Yen, have so far completed the second round of vaccination. Twenty-one other provinces and cities have accomplished the first round of vaccination, and 13 localities are now proceeding with the second round.

By May 21, 94.5 million poultry were vaccinated nationwide.
