Although the bird flu epidemic in the Mekong River Delta was contained, provincial authorities in Ca Mau, Bac Lieu and Vinh Long provinces and Can Tho city have been ordered to strengthen surveillance, disinfect poultry farms in high-risk areas and continue conducting supplementary vaccinations.

Regarding bird flu prevention in the delta, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Cao Duc Phat attributed the success to people’s increased awareness about the epidemic. Besides, authorities at all levels instructed and helped farmers adopt preventive measures drastically including strengthening surveillance, conducting supplementary vaccinations and controlling the transport of poultry and poultry products among localities.
