The Vietnam handball team will make their debut at the Qatar Asian Games (ASIAD) in December in preparation for the 24th Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) in Thailand in 2007. Sixteen players will compete in Doha to gain more experience and further improve skills.

In the 22nd SEA Games held for the first time in Vietnam in 2003, both the women’s and men’s teams took titles, but failed to maintain strength at the 23rd SEA Games in the Philippines last December.

“ASIAD is a tough competition, so we will only use it as a learning experience for the Southeast Asian Games in Thailand next year,” said the head of the National Sports and Physical Training Committee’s handball department.

The team, coached by Bui Ngoc Phuong, will warm up for ASIAD in the Hanoi Handball Open Tourney in May.
