Heavy snow falls of up to 25-40cm in big cities such as New York and Washington on March 2, have caused chaos for travelers in the US.

Due to the snowstorm, many schools in Washington closed and over 23,000 homes and businesses went without power.

Hundreds of flights were cancelled as traffic accidents continued to stretch the emergency services due to the hazardous conditions.

Facing a prolonged period of bad weather, the authorities in Washington and Philadelphia declared a state of emergency across their states.

The amount of snow already fallen has turned this snowstorm into the biggest one the US has seen for the past 3 years.
