The Hanoi War Veterans’ Association held a meeting on  December 11 to discuss orientations and tasks for 2007 in the presence of politburo member and secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Pham Quang Nghi.

Addressing the meeting, Mr Nghi praised the association’s positive contributions to implementing the city’s socio-economic development tasks, reinforcing national security and defence, reducing poverty, preventing social evils and ensuring social safety and improving national security safeguards.

Regarding future tasks, Mr Nghi asked the association to make thorough preparations for its congress scheduled for 2007 with a view to choosing qualified people for  the association’s standing committee in the 2007-2008 term.

He also urged the association to play a more active role in supervising cadres and Party members at residential quarters, properly implementing the Party and  State policies and guidelines, especially in preventing corruption and wastefulness and practising thrift.
