The General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Nong Duc Manh, led his senior officials and staff in a fundraiser on May 26 for victims of cyclone Nargis in Myanmar and the earthquake in China.


Donors committed at least one day of salaries at this fundraising campaign alone.
In general, the Red Cross network nationwide has so far raised almost VND1 billion to the victims.


In response to an appeal from the Vietnam Red Cross (VRC), the Vietnamese Foreign Ministry on May 26 raised money to help victims of southwestern Sichuan province in China and the victims of Cyclone Nargis in Myanmar.


Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Gia Khiem, leaders of Party organisations and ministry staff have donated at least one day of their salary to help the Chinese and Myanmar victims in the aftermath of the natural disasters. The Vietnam Red Cross will give donations to the families of victims.
