A high-level Vietnamese delegation, headed by President Nguyen Minh Triet, arrived in New York City on September 18 (local time) or September 19 (Vietnam time), to attend the United Nations meetings on the Millennium Development Goals.

Mr Triet was welcomed at JFK International Airport by Vietnamese Representative to the UN Le Luong Minh, and Vietnamese Ambassador to the US Le Cong Phung.

On his way to New York, President Triet met with the Governor of the Japanese Prefecture of Hyogo, Toshizo, and the Vice Mayor of the Japanese city of Sakai, Tamura, at Kansai Airport in Osaka city.
