Sapa begins building world’s longest cable car system
(VOV) - The Sun Group started constructing its Fansipan-Sapa cable car system on November 2, destined to become the world’s highest, longest, and the most complicated upon completion.
The Ba Na Cable Car Service’s Fansipan-Sapa Cable Car Service JSC is designated its official builder.
The complex three-wire cable car system will stretch the 7km from Lao Cai Province’s Sa Pa town to the peak of Fansipan Mountain.
When operating, the cable cars will shorten a climb that currently requires a two-day treck to a mere 15-minute ride. It is designed to carry a maximum of 2,000 people per hour. Each car holds 35 passengers.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai outlined his vision of a cable car system servicing the Fansipan Spa tourism centre. He believes Sapa is sure to attract even more domestic and international visitors.
Hai urged investors and contractors to minimise the project’s impacts on the local environment and landscape.
The Fansipan Sapa complex—encompassing a luxury resort, 4–5 star hotels, entertainment facilities, restaurants, and a golf course—will be built at a cost of around VND4,400 billion.
