Seven students from Loyola University, Chicago, will arrive in Vietnam on May 14 to attend a six-week course on the culture, history and people of Vietnam at Ho Chi Minh City National University.

The pilot overseas study programme is part of a cooperation agreement made between the two universities on January 13, 2009, and is designed to provide students from both universities with the opportunity to help each other academically, learn about their respective nations and join social activities.

Under the agreement, a delegation from Ho Chi Minh City National University paid a working visit to Loyola University in Chicago from April 22-28, when leaders of the two educational institutions agreed on a number of cooperation activities for the coming months, including the overseas study programme, English training courses for Ho Chi Minh City National University’s lecturers, and a management seminar for Vietnamese university rectors at the end of this year.

The US university will also join hands with Hanoi Medical College to offer medical English courses to the latter’s students.

Previously, the first group of seven students from Loyola University Chicago participated in a cooperation project with Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy from March 30 to May 1.

Loyola University Chicago is the first American university to open a representative office in Vietnam.
